About this project

THE CHALLENGE The BBQ aisle is the ultimate stronghold of "safe" corporate branding, a landscape dominated by red-checked tablecloths and smiling cartoon pigs. Our challenge was to inject the Apocalyptic Apes’ aggressive, punk-rock energy into a category that had grown soft. We needed to prove that a Kansas City-style brown sauce and a tangy St. Louis-style sauce didn't need a "friendly" mascot to dominate the shelf; they just needed to be dangerously good. THE APPROACH We leaned into the lore of the wasteland, branding the thick KC-style as 'Scavenger’s Smokehouse' and the tangy St. Louis-style as 'The Four Horsemen.' We maintained the high-impact, distressed visual language that defined our hot sauce line, ensuring the brand was unrecognizable from the "polite" competitors. To scale the rollout, we integrated these new profiles into our existing affiliate engine. This gave our community of 25+ "generals" a diversified arsenal, allowing them to slap their own unique Ape onto two distinct regional flavor profiles. We didn't just launch a new product; we gave our most loyal supporters more weapons to move in the war against blandness. THE RESULT The expansion proved that the Apocalyptic brand could move beyond niche heat and into the mainstream pantry.
